Hey Remember Me?

I’m baaaaack! Greetings from the west coast. Things that have happened since I last posted are: I moved to the Bay Area. Got an apartment in Oakland. Had a lot of emotional break downs. Started my new job. Sipped wine in Napa. And I finally got around to uploading some photos…(don’t worry, I don’t have a picture of my emotional break down)

Now that I am no longer homeless and am settling into some routines out here I promise to not be such a stranger to this blog. Its good to be back!

or so I hear?

you may have noticed dctypewriter has been silent around these parts for a few weeks. well, I am going to go ahead and tell you that its because she has been getting settled in her new home- in SAN FRANCISCO! and in 12 hours i will be joining her on the west coast for good! i recently accepted a job in SF and through a series of very awesome events we will both be discovering this new city together.

it has been a crazy month prepping for the move and i am so excited to finally get there. growing up around DC, this place has some amazing memories for me and it will always be home. but its time for an adventure! it will be rough at first, but let’s hope the good out weighs the bad in the end.

J will still be holding it down on the east coast and making me crazy homesick. 🙂

Olympic Dreams

Something I am well known for is my obsession with the Olympics. Both summer and winter. If anything I love the winter games a teensy bit more because I am able to watch ALL the sports. The summer games are so huge, its impossible to follow it all. And lets be honest- I am probably not going to spend a lot of time watching Shooting or Judo.

I love it so much, that during college when the winter games were in Salt Lake I nearly missed every class I had for two weeks. During Vancouver, it almost destroyed my relationship because I refused to go to any establishment without a television. Fortunately during Beijing I was unemployed, so I could stay up all night watching events live- Chinese time.

Doesn’t it just make you SO HAPPY?! There is a big Olympic shaped hole in my heart now that it has come to an end. Can’t wait until Sochi!

I’m heading off to Puerto Rico in the wee hours of the morning so I’ll be silent on this front for a few days. Looks like rain, so fingers crossed it clears up and I have some fun sunny pictures to share upon my return!

I need some crisp white nail polish for the rest of these summer days…

Eating my way through summer

I am currently battling an addiction to the community-based web site Food52. I’m battling it because I know if I give in to cooking all the glorious recipes on it at the end of the summer I will look like a bloated beach ball. And so will my pint-sized roommate. I’ve picked four recipes I am tackling in the next few weeks. The first: griddled polenta cakes with caramelized onions, goat cheese, and honey. The second: feta frozen yogurt with blood orange and mint granite. The third: refreshing watermelonade. (Perhaps spiked. Yah?) And finally: olive oil pancakes with dark chocolate and sea salt! Find your own summer foodie challenges on the Food52 site. (P.S. it’s winner of the James Beard Foundation publication of the year award.  a.k.a. FOODIE STAMP OF APPROVAL.) via here.

The eyes have it

I’ve been in a self-imposed work exodus and I’m finally back! Feels good. Thanks to J and G for holding things down. (More about what I was doing in another post.) In the meantime aren’t these Kate Spade reading glasses brilliant? I don’t even need reading glasses but I want to sit on the metro, open up a good book, slip them on and stylishly ignore all the panhandlers that open up their jackets and try to hawk Michelle Obama scented perfume vials. Scotch & Soda

Somewhere during my blog travels–probably 60 web clicks ago– I bumped into Amsterdam-based line Scotch & Soda. These are my favorite pieces from their current collection. I want to take my cracked Iphone (yea, that happened a month in) and jam it into that beautiful, worn desert rose leather case although I think it’s meant for a Blackberry? Via Scotch & Soda

light graffiti

Darren Pearson has been blowing my mind.

Be sure to check out his site.  It is wild.

There can only be one diva in the room

Usually I wouldn’t desecrate this blog with gratuitous paparazzi images of pop culture icons, but this image demanded some rule breaking. I would like to point out the fact that Kanye’s jewelry is bigger and shinier than Kim K’s statement necklace. Every morning for the next few [insert short time period] while they date she will get dressed and go out on dates with a gentleman that wears jewelry twice as big and twice as shiny as hers. Based on what we know about Kim K and her love for attention this will evolve into a giant emotional ordeal for her that she will eventually maneuver into a two-part E! special sanctioned by Ryan Seacrest. And based on what we know about Kanye and his love for attention this ordeal will be told through some dark, twisted, critically-acclaimed CD that features a half-naked Victoria Secret model dressed as an exotic, Armenian bird.  [via]
